Title: Simplified computational model and parametric studies of lateral dynamic impedance of single pile in non-homogeneous strata
Abstract: A simplified mechanical model for computing the lateral dynamic impedance function of single pile in layered soils is established based on certain assumptions and the improved dynamic model of beam-on-Winkler foundation by using the principle of soil dynamics and structure dynamics. Both non-homogeneity of soil strata and softening effect of soil layers around pile during vibration together with relative separation of pile-soil interface are simultaneously taken into account. The characteristics of the frequency-dependency of lateral dynamic stiffness and damping of pile are reproduced. The comparative analysis on a numerical example shows that the numerical results of dynamic impedance of pile computed by the proposed method are relatively rational and can agree well with the computational and experimental results currently available. Finally the parametric studies are made for the varied range of main parameters such as the softening zone of soils around pile, the contact conditions of pile-soil interface, the slenderness ratio of pile and the pile-soil stiffness ratio to discuss the effect of relevant factors on dynamic impedance of pile in layered soils.
