Title: The Establishing and Dismissing of Counties in Hainan Province during Western Han Dynasty
Abstract: During the reign of Emperor Wu of Han,many counties, including Daner and Zhuya, were established because of the demands for treasures from the southern areas to the Five Ridges and the protection of Silk Road at sea. After sixty-five-years since the foundation of West Han,the advice to dismiss Zhuya County given by JIA Juan-zhi was accepted by Emperor Yuan of Han.Such government move delayed the feudalization course of Hainan, and more importantly, brought heavy impacts on the handling of the frontier affairs for the coming imperial central government.
