Title: Isothermal extrusion for aluminium alloy extrusion by finite element analysis
Abstract: The distribution of microstructure (such as subgrain size) in the cross section of the extrudate is non - umiform under the normal extrusion conditions in which the ram velocity is constant. To reduce or eliminate such differences, isothermal extrusion technology was proposed. Two methods are used: adjusting the ram velocity according to the measured extrudate surface temperature or using tapered heated billet. The focus is to design the ram velocity by using commercial finite element program. Differences in terms of load, temperature and subgrain size histories are compared between the isothermal extrusion and the normal extrusion.
