Title: Expression of vascular endothelial growth factor-C and its receptor Flt-4 in papillary thyroid carcinoma
Abstract: Objective To explore the role and significance of the expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor-C(VEGF-C) and its receptors Flt-4 in metastasis of papillary thyroid carcinoma(PTC).Methods The expression levels of VEGF-C and Flt-4 were detected in 87 cases of PTC with SABC immunohistochemical method. Results Among 87 cases of PTC,the positive rates of VEGF-C and Flt-4 were 89.66%(78/87) and 81.61%(71/87),respectively.There was positive correlation between the expression of VEGF-C and Flt-4.The expression of VEGF-C in lymph node metastasis group was significantly higher than that of no lymph node metastasis group(P0.05).With the increase of VEGF-C protein, the number of Flt-4 positive vessels increased. The number of Flt-4 positive vessels in lymph node metastasis group(16.56±3.64) was significantly higher than that of no lymph node metastasis group(11.82±2.89)(P0.05).Conclusion There are overexpressions of VEGF-C and Flt-4 in primary PTC and the expressions of VEGF-C and Flt-4 are positively correlated. The number of Flt-4 positive vessels is closely correlated with lymph node metastasis.
