Title: INHIBITION OF SUB-CONJUNCTIVAL INJECTION OF TRIAMCINOLONE ACETONIDE ON CORNEAL NEOVASCULARIZATION:AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY
Abstract: Objective To study the inhibition of Triamcinolone Acetonide(TA) on corneal neovascularization(CNV) in rats. Methods A model of corneal neovascularization was created in 44 healthy rats by using alkali burn, which were evenly divided into control group-normal saline was injected sub-conjunctivally;TA group-subconjunctival injection of TA(2 mg).The proportion of the area of CNV occupying the total area of cornea was observed, the histology and ultra-structure of cornea were investigated under light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Results After 14 and 28 days of creation of the model,in TA group, the area of CNV accounted for 45.0%±14.7% and 46.0%±16.5% of the total area of cornea, respectively;in control group, that was 60.1%±10.5% and 72.0%±11.1%,the differences being significant between the two groups(t=5.187,5.340;P0.01).Microscopy indicated no obvious toxic effect caused by subconjunctival injection of TA.Conclusion Sub-conjunctival injection of TA may inhibit neovessels in cornea, and it does not appear any toxic effect on its ultra-structure.
