Title: Clinical significance of detection of serum interleukin-18 and C-reactive protein levels in patients with essential hypertension
Abstract: Objective:To study the clinical significance detected serum levels of interleukin-18(IL-18) and C-reactive protein(CRP) in patients with essential hypertension(EH).Methods:A total of 168 EH patients and 58 healthy controls were enrolled in the study.Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) and immunoturbidimetry were applied to detect serum levels of IL-18 and CRP.Results:Compared with normal control group, serum levels of IL-18 [(120.7±76.4) ng/L vs.(224.8±80.7) ng/L vs.(478.9±184.1) ng/L vs.(669.1±210.3) ng/L],CRP [(2.4±1.6) mg/L vs.(5.9±3.8) mg/L vs.(24.1±12.6) mg/L vs.(41.6±16.5) mg/L] in each group of hypertension(1~3 stage groups)significantly increased(P0.01 all).Serum levels of IL-18 and CRP gradually increased as the stage of hypertension increased(P0.01 all). Conclusion:Serum levels of interleukin-18 and C-reactive protein are associated with hypertension and its stage,so its detection posseses important significance.
