Title: Analysis of the CT and MRI manifestations of the intracranial melanocytic neoplasms
Abstract: Objective:To analyze and summarize the CT and MR manifestations of intracranial melanocytic neoplasms. Methods:CT and MRI manifestations and clinical information in ten cases diagnosed histologically as intracranial melanocytic neoplasms were retrospectively analyzed. There were 6 males and 4 females, with a mean age of 27 years. All the patients received none-contrast and contrast MR scanning, five patients received CT plain scanning. Results:The intracranial melanocytic neoplasms presented a single lesion in 7 cases and multiple lesions in 3 cases. The lesions of 6 cases were located at supratentorial region,3 cases were located at infratentorial region and 1 case straddled the tentorium of cerebellum. The lesions were adjacent to the encephalic surface, ranged from 2 to 6 cm in radial dimension. The lesions were demonstrated CT hypodensity in 2 cases and hyperdensity in 3 cases. The tumors were hyperintense relative to normal white matter on T1-weithted images and hypointense on T2-weithed images in 6 cases, hypointense on T1WI and hyperintense on T2WI in 2 cases, isointense on T1WI and hyperintense on T2WI in 1 case, hyperintense on T1WI and isointense on T2WI in 1 case. The tumors exhibited remarkable enhancement after the administration of contrast agent.Diffuse leptomeningeal enhancement was seen in 4 cases, which represented the widespread metastasis of the leptomeninges. Conclusion:The intracranial melanocytic neoplasms could be diagnosed definitely prior to operation according to their special imaging features of CT and MRI,especially the characteristic singnal intensities.
