Abstract:Objective: To investigate the effect of irbesartan on oxidative stress and inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS) in diabetic rats with contrast induced nephropathy(CIN).Methods: Streptotocin-induced d...Objective: To investigate the effect of irbesartan on oxidative stress and inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS) in diabetic rats with contrast induced nephropathy(CIN).Methods: Streptotocin-induced diabetic rats were fed for eight weeks and then randomly assigned into four groups as normal control group(N group),diabetic group(DM group),group of diabetic rats injected with diatrizoate(CM group) and diabetic rats treated with irbesartan before diatrizoate injection(ARB group).Serum creatinine(Scr),glomerular filtration rate(GFR),urinary albumin excretory rate(UAE),N-acetyglocosamidase(NAG),lipid peroxidation(MDA),antioxidant enzymes including superoxide dismutase(SOD),catalase(CAT) and iNOS activity in renal cortex were measured 48 hours after diatrizoate injection.Results: Compared with DM group,the Scr,NAG activity,MDA concentration and iNOS activity in renal cortex were higher and Ccr,SOD and CAT activity in renal cortex were less in CM group.Compared with CM group,the Scr,NAG activity,MDA concentration and iNOS activity in renal cortex were less and Ccr,SOD and CAT activity in renal cortex were higher in ARB group.Conclusion: Irbesartan has renal protection on contrast induced nephropathy in diabetic rats,probably due to suppression of renal local oxidative stress.Read More
