Title: Clinical study on efficacy of montelukast sodium in treatment of pediatric patients with variant asthma
Abstract: Objective To study the clinical efficacy of montelukast sodium in treatment of pediatric patients with variant asthma. Methods One hundred pediatric patients with variant asthma in this hospital during November 2009 to June 2010 were randomly divided into trial group and control group.Patients in control group were treated with conventional treatment, and patients in trial group were given with montelukast sodium plus conventional treatment. The clinical efficacy, improvement in lung functions and duration of hospitalization between these two groups were compared. Results The total rates of efficacy in trial group and control group were 92.0 % and 72.0 % respectively, and the efficacy in trial group was significantly better than that of control group(P 0.05).The improvement in PEFR(peak expiratory flow rate) and 25%,50% and 75% of FRF of patients in trial group after treatment was significantly better than that of patients in control group(P 0.05).The duration of hospitalization in patients of trial group was significantly shorter than that of patients in control group(P 0.05).Conclusion The efficacy of montelukast sodium in treatment of pediatric patients with variant asthma is satisfactory, and it is worthy to be recommended for clinical application.
