Title: A three dimensional movement evaluation on the effect of unilateral graded facetectomy on lumbar spinal stability
Abstract: The experiment was carried out with fresh humen lumbar functional spinal unite. A threedimensional movement device with the maximum load of 10. 0Nm were applied to produce six kinds of movement to create various movement of the lumbar spine in flexion/extension,left/right lateral bendings, left/right axial rotation. The range ofmovement (ROM ),neutral zone (NZ) and elastic zone (EZ) of the L2 ̄ L3 segments were determined by using stero-photogrammetric methods. The measurements were at first done on the intact lumbar spinal segments and data obtained were used as self-control study. Then 1/3, 2/3 , 3/3 of the unilateral facets in the L2 ̄L3 segments were resected. At last, the three dimensional quantitative eviuation in analysis of the dffect of greded facetectomy on the mobility of the lumbar spinal segments was performed. The results revealed that: (1 )the range of motion was not affected by 1/3 facetectomy(P0. 05), (2)the range of motion in creased after unilateral medial and total facetectomy and this made the lumbar spine unstable.Author' s address( Clinical anatomy and biomechanics laboratory of PLA , Dalian, Liaoling, 1 16017)
