Title: Clinical evaluation of Protaper file in root canal preparation
Abstract: Objective To assess the clinical value of the Protaper file in root canal preparation. Methods A total of 252 molars and premolars were instrumented by Protaper file using crown-down technique. All teeth were obturated with lateral condensation method. The efficiency of preparation and obturation was analyzed by radiographs before, during and after treatment. The canal curvature and operation time were recorded and compared, and the incidence of complications , post-treatment pain and instrument fracture were recordered. Results No transportation, apical blockage, ledge or perforation was found in all teeth. The Protaper could decrease the original curvature , difficulty of root canal preparation and keep flow of the root canals. The operating time was shorter and post treatment pain seldom occurred. The time for single root canal preparation was 3.55 minutes. Nine instruments fractured. Conclusion The Protaper can be used for preparation of root canals effectively and safely, which has good shaping and obturating ability, but care should be taken when using the finishing file F2 and F3.
