Title: Distribution and Assessment of Dissolved Nutrients in Bottom Water at Cage Culture Area in Yaling Bay
Abstract: Based on the field investigation over bottom water at cage culture area, Yaling Bay from April 2002 to January 2003, the concentration difference and seasonal change in dissolved nitrogen and phosphorus of bottom water at cage culture area and reference station were analyzed. The dissolved nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations were linearly correlated with environment factors; and the eutrophication level of bottom water at cage culture area was assessed. The results showed that pH, DO, COD, NO2- -N and NO3- -N in bottom water were not markedly affected by culturing, while NH4+ -N, DIN and PO43--P were more obviously influenced, and were influenced severer by long-term culture than by short-term culture at the cage culture area of Yaling Bay. The decrease in N: P ratio contributed to the occurrence of red tide at the cage culture area. The bottom water was eutrophic in Spring and Autumn, and the degree of eutrophication was positively correlated with culturing period.
