Title: The Appreciation of Rhetorical Features of English Idioms
Abstract: Language is the vehicle of culture and idioms are the prime of language.Since they have formed through a long period of time of utilization,idioms are fixed words,phrases,or sentences which are unique in collocation,grammatical structure or meaning and usually cannot be arbitrarily altered.Idioms,as a particular linguistic unit,enjoy their own special characteristics such as the stylistic features,the rhetorical features,structural features,the semantic and conventionalized features.This paper elaborates briefly the main rhetorical features of English idioms and Chinese equivalence to familiarize the readers with the concise expression and a sound appreciation of the beauty of English idioms.
