Title: Word Meaning and Interculture Communication
Abstract: Lexis is the fundamental pillar that supports the huge system of a language. From the viewpoint of social functions of a language, cultural distinctions are most prominent and widely-spread at lexical levels. In this paper, the authors will make a contrastive study of some culturally-loaded words and expressions in English and Chinese on the basis of intercultural communication. The main emphasis has been laid on the perception of some culturally-loaded words which differ in word meaning association and culture images as well as finer distinctions in semantic meanings and word connotations in intercultural communication.
