Title: Who is the Father of the Postmodern Novel?:On Jorge Luis Borges as an Originator of the Postmodern Novel
Abstract: The question ofwho is the father of the post-modern novelis one of the remaining problems of the postmodern debate in the Western academic community. This article argues that the viewpoint, namely that the postmodern novel begins from Joyce or Becket, put forward by some western scholars, such as Ihab Hassan and David Lodge,is less than persuasive. The article examines the publication dates of Borges's representative works, his theoretical and literary contributions, and his influence on the other postmodern novelists, pointing out that only Borges is worthy of the reputation of the father of the postmodern novel.
