Title: Hydraulics Characteristics of Continuous Step-down Energy Dissipation
Abstract: Based on the plenty of model experiments, the distribution of hydrodynamic pressure on the stilling basin, flow velocity and flow pattern in the basin are measured. The study focuses on these factors such as the different flow energy entranced the basin, the slope of flute connecting the stilling basin, the height of the drop step, which greatly influences the flow impact pressure on the basin floor, the flow velocity near the floor, the flow pattern and the energy dissipation rate. The results show that there exists an optimal combination of step height and the slope of flute connecting the stilling basin. With this optimal combination, both higher energy dissipation rate and lower flow velocity near the floor and lower hydrodynamic pressure on the floor in the basin can be obtained, which may be useful for the engineering design.
