Title: Direct Spectrophotometric Determination of Microamounts of Zirconium with a New Chromogenic Reagent 2,6-Diiodo-4-Nitroarsenazo
Abstract: A new chromogenic reagent , 2-(2-arsonophenylazo)-7-(2,6-diiodo-4-nitrophenylazo)-1,8-dihydroxynaphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid ,has been used in the spectrophotometric determination of zirconium. In 1.92 mol/L HCl,the reagent reacts with zirconium(IV) to form a deep blue complex with a maximum absorption at 633nm. The apparent molar absorptivity is 4.37×10~4 L/(mol·cm).Beer′s law is obeyed over the zirconium concentration range 0~20 μg/25 mL ,macroamounts of foreign ions do not interfere. The proposed method has been applied to the determination of zirconium in alloy steel without prior treatment with satisfactory results.
