Title: Three dimensional flow criterion of separation with rotation effects
Abstract: The performance of turbomachinery is often controlled by flow separation at off design conditions due to the large energy losses associated with boundary layer separation. A 3 D criterion was developed to predict incipient three dimensional separation in turbomachinery by correlating the main flow and the boundary layer flow. The effects of rotation and blade curvature were discussed using the criterion in axial turbomachinery blade passage. Rotation retards separation in the passages between slanted or bent blades. The effects of the lean and curvature of the blades on flow separation depend on main flow velocity, radius, and other parameters.
