Title: An Empirical Study on the Second Language Acquisition of Restrictive Relative Clauses in Chinese
Abstract: The acquisitional outcome of the relevant 3 parameters in Chinese relative clauses reveals:the view that typological characteristics of learners' native languages may exert profound influence upon second language acquisition applies only in the case of the parameter of Complementizers,but this view does not predict the acquisitional outcome in the case of the second language acquisition of Head Direction Parameter.In terms of the second language acquisition of Resumptive Pronouns in Chinese relative clauses,this article proposes that typological characteristics and the syntactic device(last resort) shared by all natural languages are both involved in the contruction of L2 grammar s.This article holds that the psychological distance learners feel towards the target language also influences,to a great extent,the course and outcome of their acquisition of the target languag e.
