Title: New Perspectives on Using the Mother Tongue during the Cultivation Process of Cross-linguistic Competence
Abstract: It has been a controversial issue on using the mother tongue( MT) in foreign language learning. The traditional foreign language teaching methodologies adhere to restricting or prohibiting the use of the mother tongue,but some researchers in the theory and practice of modern foreign language teaching is to actively explore its positive effects in recent years. The appearance of language output errors may be due to various factors related to the speakers' internal psychological conflict,distribution of attention,etc. It is a shared feature during unskilled stages in learning both a foreign language and the mother tongue. Mother tongue is indeed the mother of the second,third and fourth languages. It is from this womb that the new languages are born in the student's mind. If used under the guidance of a proper framework,it will certainly help the formation of the learners' potential cognitive capabilities and improve their academic language skills.
