Title: Graft Polymerization of Sodium Acrylate onto Starch in Solution
Abstract: The graft polymerization process of sodium acrylate onto starch is investigated in aqueous solution. The grafted copolymer is synthesized through chemical initiator activated starch in order that sodium acrylate polymer is grafted onto starch as a branched chain. The effects of different initiator, initiating temperature,pH and different ratio of initiator on the sodium acrylate conversion and grafting ratio and specific viscidity are discussed. And the influence of starch pre-gelatinization on graft copolymerization is indicated. The experiment results show that the solution polymerization optimal reaction temperature is 50℃,the optimal reaction time is 3h,and the grafting efficiency is preferable if the starch was gelatinized under 70℃ for 30 minutes.
