Title: Efficacy of Brachial Plexus Block Guided by Nerve Stimulator
Abstract: Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of brachial plexus block guided by nerve stimulator. Methods Sixty-eight patients scheduled for selective upper limb surgery were randomly divided into two groups, with 34 patients in each group.Patients in group Ⅰ received combined axillary and interscalene approaches to brachial plexus block guided by nerve stimulator.Patients in group Ⅱ received conventional brachial plexus block. The sensory and motor block was evaluated at 30 minutes after the injection of anesthetic solution.Performing time, blockade onset time, operation time and postoperative complications were compared between the two groups. Results There were no significant differences in operation time between the two groups(P0.05).Performing time and blockade onset time in group Ⅰ were obviously shorter than those in group Ⅱ [(10.1±2.8) minutes and(12.9±1.8) minutes vs(11.5±2.7)minutes and(14.6±2.2)minutes,respectively;all P0.05].No serious complications such as artery injury and pneumothorax occurred in both group. Conclusion Brachial plexus block guided by nerve stimulator is better than conventional technique with higher block rate and shorter onset time.
