Abstract:【Objective】 To explore the protective role of erythropoietin(EPO)in hypoxic-ischemic brain damage in neonatal rats. 【Methods】 102 7-day-old Wistar rats were divided into the three groups:Sham operatio...【Objective】 To explore the protective role of erythropoietin(EPO)in hypoxic-ischemic brain damage in neonatal rats. 【Methods】 102 7-day-old Wistar rats were divided into the three groups:Sham operation,HIBD+Normal Saline(NS)(control) and HIBD+EPO(observation).SOD activity,MDA level were measured in 2,6,12,24,48 h after the treatment of EPO or NS,and the brain water content and the number of the apoptic cells were observed. 【Results】 SOD decreased and MDA increased in HIBD+NS,but SOD increased and MDA decreased in HIBD+EPO.The number of cell apoptosis in HIBD+EPO was much fewer than that of HIBD+NS.The water content of observation group was lower than that of the control group. 【Conclusion】 EPO might be useful to protect brain of neonatal rat against hypoxic-ischemic damage by resisting free redical,reducing brain edema and inhibiting cell apoptosis1.Read More
