Title: A Combined Process of Extraction and Azeotropic Distillation Used to Separate Isopropanol From Dilute Aqueous Solution for Reduction of Energy Cost
Abstract: A combined process of extraction and azeotropic distillation was suggested to replace the existing azeotropic distillation process for separating isopropanol from dilute aqueous solution due to high energy cost of the latter. The feed was distilled by concentrating column whose reflux ratio was kept greater than 0.6.Then the overhead product was extracted in an extraction column. The volume ratio between feed, extractant and separating agent was 1∶2.5∶1.Isopropanol of high purity was obtained as the bottom product of dewatering column whose feed was the extract. Most of the upper liquid phase from the condenser of dewatering column was reused as the extractant. The separating agent was recovered from the raffinate through evaporator. The simulating calculation was also carried out.As a result, the energy cost of this new process was 40% less than the existing process.
