Title: Use of rating of perceived exertion to prescribe intensity of endurance exercise soldiers
Abstract: Objective To examine the validity of using rating of perceived exertion(RPE) scale to prescribe exercise intensity of soldiers, thereby finding a simple and effective method to adjust intensity of endurance training. Methods Maximal heart rate(MAR) was determined using difference between 220 and age.Exercise intensity was prescribed as a percentage of maximal heart rate(50%~90%),and the related rating of perceived exertion(RPE) was recorded, which uses a subjective rating from 7 to 20 to quantify an individual's perceived exercise intensity. Results A linear relationship between %MHR and RPE exists for groups of recruits and veferans. For recruits, heart rate=37.45+7.43×RPE(R=0.952).For veterans, heart rate =30.11+8.02× RPE(R=0.96).Conclusion The RPE scale is a valid method to monitor exercise intensity of soldier
