Title: Choice of Operation for Chiari -I Malformation
Abstract: Objective To explore the appropriate surgical procedure for Chiari Ⅰ malformation complicated by syringomyelia and cervical spondylopathy. Method The clinical data of 174 patients with Chiari Ⅰ malformation diagnosed as by MRI were analyzed retrospectively to explore the relationship between the complications and the operative method. Results All the 174 patients had the cerebellar tonsil hernia and syringomyelia, 51 basilar invagination, 19 scoliosis, 20 atlanto-occipital fusion and 22 cervical spondylo-pathy. The operative effect was satisfactory (94.8%). Conclusions Chiari Ⅰ malformation is a common malformation in the craniocer-vical junction and often complicated by verterarium and spinal cord malformations. It is necessary to make a detailed assessment of its pathological anatomy and a choice of the different operation.
