Title: Surgical therapeutic effects of operation on temporal lobe epilepsy
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the of operative effect on intractable temporal epilepsy. Methods The outcomes of 72 intractable temporal epilepsy patients (treated by surgical operation) were retrospectively analyzed. Results After a follow up of 1 to 11 years, epileptic seizure stopped in 37 cases(51.4%); seizure frequency reduced by more than 75% in 19 cases(26. 4%), ranging from 50% to 75% in 8 cases(11.1%) and no marked change was found in 8 patients (11.9%). The gross efficiency rate was 88.9%. No death and severe complications were found in 72 patients. Conclusion Surgical treatment of drug refractory temporal epilepsy is safe and efficient because of the precise localization of the epileptogenic lesion and focus before complete resection.
