Title: Clinical observation on nasal skull-base neoplasms with endoscopic minimally invasive technique:A report of 19 cases
Abstract: Objective To discuss the indication, efficacy and safety of endoscopic surgery in the management of nasal skull-base neoplasms. Methods Nineteen patients with nasal skull-base neoplasms were treated with endoscopic sinus surgery from January 2001 to January 2008. The neoplasms included sinus inverted papilloma (6 cases),pituitary adenoma (6 cases),sinus osteofibroma (3 cases),olfactory neuroblastoma(2 cases),and residue of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) after radiotherapy (2 cases). Pathological confirmation was performed postoperatively. All the patients except those with NPC received postoperativel radiotherapy. Results The neoplasms were excised in all cases. Cerebrospinal fluid leakage occurred in 3 cases and got successful management with middle turbinate. All the cases were followed up 2 to 4 years with no recurrence. Conclusion If appropriate indication is selected, the nasal skull-base neoplasm can be well managed with endoscopic sinus surgery.
