Title: A Tentative Study of the Spatial Narrative of Poetry
Abstract: As of now, little exploration has been done into poetry narrative in comparison to that into fiction narrative. This article therefore focuses on a possible approach to poetry narrative studies from the perspective of spatial theories in narrative. For this endeavour,we treat poetry as a spatial art in terms of simultaneous spatial juxtaposition, physical form and the construction of spiritual space. Each poem comprises a series of organically interwoven images, each of which is a relatively independent poetic space and serves as the basic narrative unit in the spatial narrative of the poem.Generally speaking, poetic images have three narrative functions:setting the general tone of the poem, determining its narrative tempo, and advancing its development.Based upon this concept,we may say that the spatial narrative of poetry is in fact determined by the spatial narrative of poetic images.
