Title: Fluoxetine in treatment of depression associated with hypertension
Abstract: Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of fluoxetine in treatment of depression associated with hypertension.Methods:68 patients with depression associated with hypertension were randomly divided to receive fluoxetine(20mg·d -1,n=34) or doxepin (75mg·d -1,n=34)and followed-up for 12 weeks.The efficacy was assessed by Zung Depression Scale and safety was assessed by Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale.Results:The total effective rates in fluoxetine and doxepin arm were 79.41% and 73.53% respectively without significant difference between the two groups(P 0.05).The onset of action was 3~4 weeks for fluoxetine arm and 6~8 weeks for doxepin arm and there was significant difference between them(P 0.05).The incidence rate of ADRs were 38.2% for fluoxetine arm and 70.6% for doxepin arm with significant difference between them(P0.05).Conclusion:Fluoxetine is an effective and safe agent for treatment of depression associated with hypertension.
