Title: The clinical effect of non-invasive positive pressure ventilation in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease combined with type II respiratory failure
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of non-invasive positive pressure ventilation(NIPPV)in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease combined with type II respiratory failure. Methods One hundred and sixty-four patients were divided into 2 groups: control group(n = 78)and treatment group(n = 86).The two groups were treated with conventional therapy. However, the treatment group was treated with non-invasive breathing machine.Heart rate, breathing frequency and arterial blood gas were detected after 1,2,4 and 10 days of the treatment. Results Compared to treatment before, heart rate, breathing frequency and arterial blood gas were improved significantly in both groups. However, the non-invasive positive pressure ventilation plus conventional therapy showed more effective than conventional therapy alone. The time in hospital of patients with non-invasive positive pressure ventilation treatment was shorter than that of the control group patients. The readmission times reduced significantly(P0.05),and the total cost of treatment has no significantly increased(P0.05).Conclusion Non-invasive positive pressure ventilation has positive effects on patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease combined with type Ⅱ respiratory failure. It is worthy of clinical application.
