Title: Application of Propofol Anesthesia in Modified Electroconvulsive Therapy
Abstract: Objective: To research the effect and safety in propofol anesthesia in modified electroconvulsive therapy for patients. Methods: Thirty four schizophrenic patients who were first admitted in our hospital were randomly divided into two groups:propofol group (17 cases) and thiopentone group (17 cases) .Everyone was treated with modified electroconvulsive therapy 6 times, and every group had the therapy 102 times. During the therapy, the propofol group was anesthetized with propofol, the thiopentone group was anesthetized with thiopentone. Patients'response, time to catch breath, time to revive,BP,HR and sPO_2 were observed. Results: Time to catch breath and to revive was shorter in propofol group than those in thiopentone group ( P 0.05).Compared with thiopentone group, side effects of patients were reduced in propofol group ( P 0.05). Conclusion: Propofol anesthesia in modified electroconvulsive therapy for patients is effective and safe.
