Abstract: The key to improving the quality of English teaching in China depends on teachers.The factors to restrict the professional development of English teachers include the quality of their own language,educational philosophy,theoretical knowledge,teaching skills and techniques.It will be helpful for the majority of English teachers to develop and establish a set of teaching theory and practice system adapting to China's national situation to study and master the English teaching theory and some research results of teaching practice,to learn and absorb critically the viewpoints and methods from them and apply them to specific teaching activities.
