Title: A survey of attitude and knowledge for AIDS and sexual behavior among middle school students in Luoyang City
Abstract: Objective To understand the knowledge and attitude for AIDS and sexual behavior among middle school students in Luoyang City of Henan Province and develop efficiently the health education on AIDS and sexual behavior knowledge among middle school students.Methods Using structural questionnaires to interview the basic knowledge, attitude and behavior for AIDS and sexual behavior among 1980 students in junior and senior middle school of the six common middle schools of the six regions in Luoyang by cluster sampling from September to December in 2004. Results 54.5% of students had not learned about the prevention of HIV/AIDS in school, 38.3% did not know about the knowledge and the route of transmission of HIV/AIDS, 28.8% did not understand about HIV/AIDS not being transmitted by ordinary touching , 76.3% of students had not talked about HIV/AIDS with their family or friends ,Furthermore, 91.2% of students would not want to study with patients with HIV/AIDS in the same class. There were about 21.7% of students who had read books , watched videos and other products about sex , 13.4% of students approved of sexual intercourse before marriage, 1.1% of students had had sexual intercourse during high school phase , 80.5% thought it was very necessary to accept the health education on HIV/AIDS and sex knowledge, 18.9% expected to gain the knowledge about HIV/AIDS and sex from their parents, teachers or experts. Conclusion The middle school students were short of knowledge for HIV/AIDS and sex. It was no time to delay to develop the health education of HIV/AIDS prevention and sexual health in proper way as soon as possible among students and made them get through the sexual puzzled period of time peacefully.
