Title: The Construction of Lexical Competence and Its Application to English Teaching
Abstract: Vocabulary is indispensible in verbal communication,and the construction of the conceptual framework of second language(L2) lexical competence is vital both to second language acquisition and to foreign language teaching.Analysis of the literature shows that a multi-dimensional framework of L2 lexical competence containing vocabulary size,depth of vocabulary knowledge,automaticity of lexical access,lexical organization,and lexical semantic autonomy can be used as guidelines for the study of L2 vocabulary acquisition and teaching practice.
