Abstract:Objective To understand the relationship between betel nut chewing and the prevalence of oral submucous fibrosis(OSF)in Changsha area.Methods The age,sex,time and frequence of chewing betel nut,clinic...Objective To understand the relationship between betel nut chewing and the prevalence of oral submucous fibrosis(OSF)in Changsha area.Methods The age,sex,time and frequence of chewing betel nut,clinical features as well as the mouth opening width were studied among 2,749 physical check-up subjects in Changsha area.Results The prevalence of OSF and betel nut chewing rate were 1.78% and 25.35% respectively,and the prevalence of OSF among betel nut eaters was 7.03%.The betel nut eater and OSF patient predominated in males,particuarly in the 30~49 year-old group,and some of them suffered from stimulating pain,and gradual inability to open the mouth.Conclusion Some residents have the habit of betel nut chewing in Changsha area.The prevalence of OSF is high among betel nut eaters,it is necessary to design and implement intervention program for betel nut eaters and OSF patients.Read More
