Title: Design of Clean Separation of Ternary Mixture of HMDO-toluene-water
Abstract: Based on thermodynamics analysis of the mixture of hexamethyldisilane(HMDO),toluene and water,the design of a clean separation process for this mixture was simulated by ASPEN PLUS.Azeotropic distillation was used to separate the HMDO,toluene and water,Different azetropic solvents were compared and it was found that acetone was a best solvent.The mixture of HMDO,acetone and water as an azeotropic mixture was got from the upper of the tower.The separation of an azeotropic solvent could be realized through a liquid-liquid extraction process using water as extractive solvent,water and acetone were recovered by distillation.No waste water and acetone were produced during the whole separation process thanks to the recycling of extractive solvent and azeotropic solvent.Therefore the separation process developed here could be considered as a clean separation process.
