Title: Clinical research and following results on the minimal incision and traditional total hip arthroplasty
Abstract: Purpose To explore the surgical techniques of minimal incision surgery total hip arthroplasty(MIS-THA) for the sake of tissue-preserving and rapid recovery, then to evaluate the clinical effect of MIS. Methods From June 2002 to January 2005,51 patients were treated surgical with MIS approach,in which there were 36 patients with single incision and 15 patients with two-incision.Ninety-five patients treated surgically with traditional approach were compared with the MIS group to evaluate surgical effect and patient recovery condition. Results There was no remarkable difference between the two groups in the aspect of pre-operation diagnosis, age, weight,Harris score, and preoperative patient preparation time. But the comparison between the two groups showed that the MIS surgical technique resulted in less blood loss, less pain, quicker return to function and fewer post-operation complications. Conclusions The results achieved through the MIS approach were significantly better than that of the traditional total hip arthroplasty approach. The MIS is an ideal method for total hip arthroplasty with less surgical trauma、less blood loss、rapidly recovery and lower operative complication rate.
