Title: The Morphology and Life History of Scytosiphon lomentaria
Abstract: Under our experimental conditions,Scytosiphon lomentaria could release both female and male gametes, and form zygotes, which will develop into sporophytes.Sporophyte could grow under different conditions though the temperature can affect its growth, but its forms were influenced by temperature. At higher temperature(20 ℃),crustose or cushion-like thalli were the main form of the strain. At the same time, unispores developed into new sporophytes in cultures. At medium temperature(13~20 ℃),filaments and cushion-like thalli as main forms of sporophyte could produced unilocular sporangia. The mature unilocular sporangia developed and released unispores which developed into erect tubular germlings in regimes. At lower temperature(9 ℃),filaments grew very slow.Crustose thalli mainly existed as a form of sporophyte in summer, which helped the distributions of species. These results showed that temperature plays a more important role than light period in the germination and development of gametophyte of S.lomentaria.
