Title: The study on pulse pressure in impaired glucose metabolism and type 2 diabetes patients
Abstract: Objective:Pulse pressure is related to cardiovascular diseases.Impaired glucose metabolism(IGM) and type 2 diabetes are also the risk factors to cardiovascular diseases, but the relationship between pulse pressure and IGM,type 2 diabetes has not been investigated in Chinese population.Method:A total of(2?420) subjects who attented a routine health examination were recruited and tested for cholesterol, triglyceride, systolic blood pressure, diastolic pressure, pulse pressure, and body mass index(BMI).The relationship of pulse pressure with IGM and type 2 diabetes was studied. In order to avoid the effect of age on pulse pressure,we stratified all subjects into three groups(40-54,55-69 and over 70 year old).Result:Pulse pressure, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure,BMI and triglyceride were significantly higher in IGM and type 2 diabetes patients in the age between 40 and 54 year old(P0.01).Total cholesterol level was not significantly differed among the three groups(P0.05).In the age between 55 and 69 year old, only pulse pressure was significantly increased in the IGM and diabetes patients(P0.05).In the age group of over 70 year old,all the observed index were not significantly differed among the three groups(P0.05).Conclusion:The pulse pressure is increased in the patients of IGM or type 2 diabetes under the age of 70 year old.The increased pulse pressure may be a marker to identify individuals at risk for cardiovascular diseases.
