Title: Clinicopathologic features of intermediate trophoblast tumors
Abstract: Purpose To investigate the clinicopathological features of epithelioid trophoblastic tumor(ETT) and placental site trophoblastic tumor(PSTT).Methods Four cases of PSTT and a case of ETT were studied using usual histopathologic(HE staining),immunohistochemical(SP method) techniques and clinicopathological characteristics were described. Results Major clinical findings of PSTT and ETT included irregular vaginal bleeding and amenorrhea, while preoperative serum HCG level increased lightly or moderately.PSTT consisted of one implantation-site IT cell and permeated myometrial fibers either individually or connecting in cords, while tumor infiltrated blood vessel obviously.ETT was composed of a relatively uniform mononuclear IT cells, arranged in nests and cords, which distributed in a geographical pattern with hyalinization or eosinophilic debris of tumor necrosis.Immunohistochemically, the cases were positive for epithelial, trophoblastic markers, however, there were different expression in HPL,Mel-CAM,PLAP and p63.Main treatments included hysterectomy and chemotherapy, and prognosis of most patients were good. Conclusion ETT and PSTT are rare trophoblastic tumors. They are different in pathologic features and immunophenotype, and the clinical behavior of ETT is seemed similar to that of PSTT.
