Title: STUDY OF DECREASING FALSE NEGATIVE RATE OF SENTINEL LYMPH NODES IN BREAST CANCER BIOPSY
Abstract: ObjectiveTo study how to decrease the false negative rate in sentinel lymph node biopsy(SLNB) in breast cancer.MethodsFrom January 2002 to December 2003,94 breast cancer patients underwent SLNB by injecting patent blue and axillary lymph node dissection(ALND),which was followed by routine pathological examination(HE)and serial section. Results The success rate, the sensitivity and the specificity of SLNB were 94.7%, 88.9% and 86.0%, respectively. The total accordance rate and false negative rate were 91.0% and 13.3%, respectively. The false negative rate was correlated with patients' age, the number, location, size of the tumor, whether biopsy or chemotherapy, experience and skills of the surgeons.ConclusionThe false negative rate of SLNB can be decreased by patent blue dyeing and marking.
