Title: The impact of DMPS on cerebral ischemia/reperfusion in rats
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the impact of Sodium 2,3-dimercaptopropane sulfonate(DMPS) on the damage following transient and focal cerebral ischemia/reperfusion in rats. Methods Male SD rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: Sham group,NS group and DMPS group. Transient and focal cerebral ischemia/reperfusion model(tMCAO) was made by blocking rat right middle cerebral artery. After 2 hours blocking reperfusion was done. After 24 hours reperfusion brains were made into 10% homogenate for the determination of MAD content,SOD and GSH-Px activity. Results (1)The three groups all showed different nerve behavioral deficiency. After drug administration nerve behavioral deficiency of the cerebral ischemia/reperfusion rat was improved in different degrees (compared with NS group,P0.05). (2)Infarction size was reduced in different degrees (compared with NS group,P0.05) after drug administration.(3)After drug administration degeneration in infarction zone was improved in different degrees.(4)The content of rat MAD 24 hours after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion was reduced significantly compared with NS group(P0.01),the activity of SOD and GSH-Px was increased significantly(P0.01).Conclusion DMPS could decrease MDA content significantly after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion,the activity of SOD and GSH-Px could be increased and infarction size reduced, nerve cell necrosis lessened.
