Title: Report on Baseline Investigation of Malaria in Zaoyang City, Hubei Province
Abstract: Objective Investigating the prevalent state, the number of actual malaria cases, and the inplementation of the malaria control measures.(Methods )In accordance with Technical Methods on Baseline Investigation of Global Malaria Fund, by the way of stratified random unequal proportion sampling method.(Results) 4 803 people were interviewed: 70 cases with malaria history, 4 of them treated regularly(5.71%);19 cases treated with Quinoline(27.14%),9 cases treated in the resting stage(12.85%),10 of the 70 cases conformed to the epidemic report(14.29%).52 randomly inspected clinical prescriptions among 267 cases were conformed to the epidemic report(19.48%).The rate of blood examination positive cases reported was 93.54%(333/356),the questionnaire knowing rate about knowledge on malaria prevention among residents and primary/middle school students were 24.09% (285/1 182)and 67.54% (514/761) respectively.Residents protection rate with mosquito net user was 95.34%(4 579/4 803).There were totally 14 health workers in the 9 villages investigated,11 of them were trained. The positive rate of IFAT of primary/ middle school students was 1.55%14/903).Poor blood examination skill and quality were found in some clinics.According to the CMR method, the estimated number of malaria cases in Zaoyang in 2002 was 18 102,and was 6.99 times of the number reported (2 588).Conclusion Low regular treatment rate for present state cases,low treatment rate in the resting stage for cases with malaria history,severe epidemic missing report,and poor blood examination skill and quality in some clinics were the main problems found in this investigation
