Title: Zhou Yi and Theories of Chinese Painting and calligraphy
Abstract: The Book of Changes, one resource of Chinese traditional culture, imposes far-reaching influences upon all fields of it, including the development of theories concerning Chinese painting and calligraphy. The relations between the Book of Changes and the theories of Chinese painting and calligraphy lie in three aspects: (1) the inactive and active concept of Chinese Grand Terminus and the origin of calligraphy and painting; (2) the idea of life and growth in nature and the particulars of painting and calligraphy; (3) inspecting the things and selecting the images and the creation of painting and calligraphy.
