Title: Clinicopathology of Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma
Abstract: Objective To investigate the clinicopathological features of medullary thyroid carcinoma.Methods The clinical,pathological and immunohistochemical characteristics of 16 cases of immunohistochemically proven medullary thyroid carcinoma were retrospectively analyzed.ResultsMedullary thyroid carcinoma had cancer like and sarcomatoid features,with the appearance of nodular mass and amyloid deposition.Of the 16 cases,immunohistochemistry showed Ckpan(+)in 7(43.75%),EMA(+) in 6(37.5%),Vim(+) in 1(6.25%),TG(-)in 16(100.0%),CT(+) in 15(93.75%),Syn(+)in 9(56.25%),CgA(+)in 7(43.75%),CEA(+)in 5(31.25%),and Congored staining(+)in 14(87.5%).Conclusion Medullary thyroid carcinoma is a malignant tumor with morphological diversity and neuroendocrine characters,and its diagnosis depends on morphology and immunohistochemistry.
