Title: Ultra-wide stopband low-pass filter based on defect ground structure
Abstract: A new defected ground structure(DGS) based on the microstrip line was proposed. The performance of the structure was analyzed. An ultra-wide stopband low-pass filter was designed. It was combined by the traditional DGS unit, the new DGS unit, and the low impedance microstrip line. The wide stopband attenuation was provided by the traditional dumbbell structure, and the steep stopband attenuation response was provided by the new structure. The simulation and the sample test indicate that the 3 d B cutoff frequency of the filter is 1.8 GHz, the insertion loss in passband is less than 1 d B, and the S_(11) in passband is less than –20 d B. The stopband under –20 d B is from 2.92 GHz to 19.59 GHz. Compared with the traditional DGS, the dimension of the low-pass filter with new-type DGS is decreased by 32%, that achieves the wide stopband and miniaturization for the filter.
