Title: The Prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome and Feature from Qingdao Port Health Study
Abstract: Objective To explore the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in a Chinese occupational population. Methods The data of totally 11536 employees aged 18~54 collected from Qingdao Port Health Study were analyzed. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was calculated using the criteria of ATP Ⅲ report and corrected waist circumference (men≥85 cm, women≥80 cm). Results According to ATP Ⅲ criteria, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome was 6.3% and 3.5% in men and women, respectively. The percentage of abdominal obesity were lowest when compared with other four abnormalities among the people with this syndrome. According to corrected criteria, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome were increased (men 17.7%, women 4.2%). Conclusion The results show that metabolic syndrome is somewhat prevalent in the population, especially in men. The criteria of metabolic syndrome to fit Chinese population are needed.
