Title: Microsurgical management of cervical spinal cord intramedullary ependymoma
Abstract: Objective To explore the microsurgical outcome and prognosis of intramedullary cervical cord ependymoma.Methods Retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 39 cases of cervical intramedullary ependymoma identified by surgical and pathological examination from 2005 ~ 2011. Results 31 patients achieved totally tumor resection( 79. 5%),and 8 were subtotal resected( 20. 5%). All cases were followed up for 3 months to 8 years after surgery by out- patient review and telephone interview. The neurological function was improved in 28 cases,no changes occurred in 7,aggravated in 4. There was no operation- related death. Conclusion Cervical spinal intramedullary ependymoma can be effectively treated by microsurgical procedures.
