Title: Effect of heat treatment on anaerobic fermentation hydrogen production from sludge
Abstract: In this paper, sludge was pretreated by heat to enhance anaerobic fermentation hydrogen production. The results of experiment showed that: Heat treatment is an effective ways of sludge harmonization, the effect of sugar and protein hydrolyzing of heat pretreated sludge was very good, solubilized protein from the heat pretreated sludge was 6.4~8.9 times of the raw sludge, and solubilized sugar was 1.6~7.9 times of the raw sludge. The optimal conditions was sludge heat treatment for 10 min at 75 ℃.At the optimal conditions, the highest total hydrogen production of 20.3 ml was obtained, which was increased 19 times than the raw sludge;the specific hydrogen production rate was 152.2 ml·kg-1VS·h-1.Equation of SGompertz was used to fit the experiment datum in this paper, the relation between total hydrogen production(y) and time(x) was quantitative described in every conditions. The concentration change of sludge index was evident after anaerobic fermentation, the concentration of ammonia nitrogen(NH4+-N) and total volatile fatty acids(TVFA) has been increased, and the concentration of solubilized protein and sugar has been decreased.Heat treatment for anaerobic fermentation hydrogen production from sludge was a process of reducing protein and the concentration of protein in sludge was reduced by 20%~41%.
